Station XV: It’s our birthday!!

As we mark the Feast of the Assumption, the patronal feast of New Zealand, The 15th Station celebrates our fifth birthday with a typically full show. Dunedin Bishop Colin Campbell’s strong letter denouncing the proposed opening of an abortion clinic leads the show, but other heavy issues like the Egyptian election, same-sex legislation in New Zealand and the mass shootings at a Sikh temple and a Colorado movie theatre. A big thank you to all our listeners over the past five years, during which time tens of thousands of shows have been downloaded. The show will go on 🙂

15 Minutes with the Bishop: New Mass translation

Last month, some parishes in Australia started to introduce the new English translation of the Mass. New Zealand was several months ahead, introducing the people’s parts of the new translation last November. Bishop Patrick Dunn talks about the implementation of the new translation, how it’s been received and when we should expect to hear some of the other parts of the translation. He also talks with Gavin about the decision to return to the use of the “old” Our Father for Masses in New Zealand.

We hope you enjoy the show.

Station XV – Episode 38 – Sad, happy, happy, sad, puzzled

We have a mix of stories this month: starting with the terribly sad and tragic story of the Iraqi Catholics massacred while at Mass, then to the happy coverage of the first Australasian saint, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, then the happy story of five Anglican bishops joining the Church, then the sad passing of Bishop John Cunneen, and then we finish on the puzzling story of “the Vatican” saying Homer Simpson is Catholic?!? Catechiwi Special: Australasia’s First Saint

On October 17, Pope Benedict XVI will canonise Blessed Mary MacKillop, making her St Mary of the Cross (MacKillop). Mary, born and raised in Australia, was a co-founder of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart and spent approximately four years of her religious life in New Zealand. She encountered major obstacles along the way, but responded to them with charity and humility. In a special episode of Catechiwi, Sr Ann Neven, RSJ, speaks with Gavin Abraham on Mary MacKillop’s life and legacy just days before the canonisation. It’s the story of an Aussie battler — one who Kiwis can also claim.
